This piece of art is entitled Cloud 101316 by Ted Kincaid. He made this piece of art by disabling the light meter in his polaroid camera. By him doing this, it allowed for a longer shutter speed, so he could capture time in motion instead of static images.
I could think of using this piece of art in a science class in several different ways as a way to connect the arts with science. One way that it could be used is in a discussion about light waves and how they travel. This painting is a good example of how light waves travel because Kincaid disabled his light meter in his camera, so the light did not travel as well. By the light not being able to pass through as well, the image is blurry and hazy. Another way that this piece of art could be used in a science class is when discussing elements and atoms. Because of the blurriness and haziness of the images on the piece of art, the images can be representative of the parts of an atom. The defined circles throughout the painting could represent the nucleus of the atom and the hazy halo around each circle could represent the electrons and the electron cloud that surround the nucleus of an atom.
All in all, the painting Cloud 101316 by Ted Kincaid could be used in a science class in different ways. This is also a good way to connect the arts to science while promoting literacy.
