Strategy Lesson Reflection: Front Loading With Images

In our strategy lesson over frontloading with images I think that several things went well. First, I think that Kaylie and I both spoke about the same amount throughout the lesson. There was not one person dominating the entire time. Another thing that went well was that the students were engaged and participated in the activity. There were different groups answering questions and we were getting a variety of plausible answers. Lastly, we had planned who would discuss which slides which made the whole lesson go smoothly. I believe that planning is the key to this whole lesson. If there is no planning involved, nothing would have gone smoothly.

Something that I may possibly do differently in the future when using frontloading with images is arrange the images on the slide show from most abstract to most concrete, like someone suggested in class. Another possibility is I may do a scaffolding technique and use more concrete examples as I am introducing the strategy until the students are used to the strategy and then slowly make the images more abstract.
An unexpected challenge that I faced while preparing for this strategy lesson was the difficulty of finding images that showed slope, but were not too obvious or too abstract. We dealt with this by searching google images and comparing images until we found a mix of images that we felt showed slope without blatantly stating it or being too abstract.
Overall, this strategy lesson was a good opportunity for me to do several things. One, I was able to work on my communication skills. Two, I was able to learn about a new strategy that I knew absolutely nothing about and present about it. And lastly, I was able to get experience collaborating with a peer on a project. I liked the strategy lesson!
