This lesson plan incorporates literacy strategies, including read aloud, Reader’s Theater, and reflecting on what was read and answering questions. I believe that this is a good resource, especially for Earth science teachers because it gives goods suggestions of what types of activities to do with the students that would be interesting, interactive, yet still builds the vocabulary, and reading and writing skills that the students need. I also, really like this resource because it is a multi-day lesson plan and how the same strategy, such as read aloud and reflecting in their science journal, can be done more than just one day and the students will not get tired of it that quickly.

I really love this lesson plan you found! I love how it incorporates activating student’s prior knowledge about ponds before they read the text. Additionally, the activity following the reading is a great way to help students better understand vocabulary from their reading, and why that vocabulary is important. Ending with the journal entry is a great way to get students writing and reflecting about what they learned. Overall it is a great lesson plant that incorporates literacy.

I think this is such an awesome lesson plan! it is so important to incorporate literacy into all content areas. I especially like how the students all create a word wall because I think that is a good way to incorporate all the student's ideas. This is definitely a good and practical resource!
ReplyDeleteThis lesson plan was very interesting to look over! I really enjoyed the in depth of it and how it starts with a simple overview of what information is about to be presenting. The way the teacher incorporates reading skills into the science lesson is refreshing to see. Science can be an intimidating subject and by students learning early on in their education on how to read the material will be so beneficial for them!
