This blog discusses how content-area literacy instruction is becoming more and more used in all content-areas at all grade levels in K-12. The blog highlighted a fourth grade teacher who used various instructional techniques to teach the science curriculum and content-area literacy at the same time. She does a read aloud that correlates with each unit. For example, for the unit the author observed, the teacher was reading a Magic treehouse book about inventors while the students learned about inventions.
This is a good resource for teachers to read because it gave examples of how to to connect fiction books, trade books, and textbooks to the science curriculum that the students are learning. By using other literacy methods, this can make the materials more interesting and engaging for the students and allows for the students to better understand both the science curriculum and literacy.

Maegan, I think that sometimes it is difficult to connect literacy strategies with other content-areas. That is why I think this resource is very useful for teachers. It gives specific examples on ways to connect literacy components in the science classroom. I really like the example of reading Magic Treehouse with her science class. I have read almost every one of those books growing up and never made the connection to science class. I think this would allow students to be excited about learning and reading both!
